Rough Night...Still Wish I was There
Hey, I like 1993. Feel like at some point around Compton terrace they hit a peak for this era. Vince comes out in full effect from the get-go, which for me is a plus. Stranger is solid with solid envelope filter JG solo. Fairly pedestrian Jack-A-Roe but with good pace. Like so many of the more traditional tunes played in the era just too busy by especially Bobby and Vince for my personal taste, but oh well. I tend to skip over Rooster (and Walkin Blues for that matter) and this is pretty standard fare with a bit of Jerry spark in his final solo. STAGGER LEE, a personal fave tune and one I almost always like…is a bit quick and not great, but I still dig it and JG takes it home. QJA is another tune I could hear every night, this one is meh. A bit quick and sloppy, but decent. Meh LL and PM closer.
2nd set not the greatest Scarlet even of the era, and a pretty lackluster transition to FotM which features Vince playing with a steel drum sound and then some synth that is just the wrong side of hip and craps all over the solo…like he isn’t listening to Jerry AT ALL. Yawner of a Women Smarter. I am a big Way to Go Home fan…this one is middle of the road, uninspired, and almost dragging, not the best or the worst. The dragging show works nicely for a pretty solid He’s Gone…but a quick subtle New Speedway tease deflates into a tired transition to drums, signaling this will be one of those shorter nights. Pretty solid, standard drums and trippy techno space that would have melted me depending on what I dropped that night. The soon to be standard space-> Last Time was almost worn out already by now, but this is as good as any with awesome backing vocals by Vinnie.
The entire show is worth it for the Days Between alone. As good a version they ever played. I will leave it at that. Then a sub par Around and Around plunges it back into mediocrity before getting sloppy and weird. Ouch. As much as I love BMR it isn’t a killer version, but it works I guess.
I don’t know…just doesn’t seem like they are having much fun here. The Days was a huge highlight. But with like a lot of shows that would come the next year it seems Vince is playing his ass off, much to the overall detriment of the sound, Phil is killing it as usual, and some others are fairly disinterested. I am sure it would have been great to be there like so many other 90’s shows I went to, but on listening back pretty so-so.

I remember being at this show and thinking the sound was shitty. I did some wandering around in the caverns of Boston Garden and vowed never to return to see a show there. Listening to this crispy board sheds a whole new light on that evening. Thanks for sharing.

Overall: 3 out of 5 but the DAYS BETWEEN...
THIS Days between is WAY up there! Find a better one, puh-lease! :) Either way, other than a few gems, VERY average show for the era. And no, I'm not one of those that ONLY like 68-78!! So take that TO "heart"! :)
In any case, average show, but a few great songs. And AS ALWAYS, THANKS CHARLIE!!!!!!!
